The thought of coming into hospital can be a little daunting. We naturally want to make your stay comfortable and are aware that many women would prefer the added comfort and privacy of a single amenity room during their stay. At Watford General Hospital we have two types of amenity rooms available for women to book. Amenity rooms are available for women who wish to have extra privacy after they have given birth. You will still be treated as an NHS patient, but are paying for the privacy of a single room. Please ask your midwife on admission regarding room availability.

A pregnancy can be seen from as early as 6 weeks from the first day of your last period LMP and not the date of conception.
If you have had any bleeding or pain or any other symptoms then this scan will accurately confirm viability. Sometimes it is requested by a doctor or midwife to confirm that your pregnancy is healthy in this case your scan is often called a viability scan and to calculate the date when your baby is due usually referred to as a dating scan.
It can also be performed to confirm the results of a pregnancy test or just to provide you with some reassurance that all is progressing as it should be. The sonographer will explain about the scan during your appointment. How is the scan arranged? If you decide you would like to have a scan, your midwife will tell you where it can be done and will arrange the appointment for you.

Ultrasound scans during pregnancy
At 10 weeks, your baby measures about 3cm 1. Nearly all scans after 10 weeks can be done through your tummy, and most units ask you to arrive with a full bladder. Anyway, I convinced them not to induce me and luckily went into labour naturally that night. Measurements at such an early stage aren’t accurate which is why they wait for 12 weeks to date you.
However, the midwife just based it on a normal 28 day cycle and said 3rd. So my advice to you would be not to be gutted if they put you back, but to be happy that they don’t put you forward because that way the baby will probably come slightly earlier or ‘on time’ according to their date and you won’t have to fight not to be induced and hang around for 2 weeks longer than expected, feeling like a massive beached whale and having people phone you everyday asking ‘Any news?
All women who choose to give birth at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are offered an appointment to have an early scan, between weeks
I believe there are more generous arrangements currently available elsewhere in UK. We suspected a problem as Pauline could no longer follow her favourite TV programs, as she could not remember the story line from the previous episode. Pauline used to forget what she was saying mid-sentence on a regular basis, but as I used to often anticipate her thoughts we had managed very well for some time.
It was annoying for her when she forgot the need for a loo visit until too late, but again we managed without a fuss with incontinence pants, which we bought privately rather than trouble the NHS. However Pauline admitted to me for the first time that she failed to recognise people she had seen only a few days before, and covered this up by being friendly when people approached her. Pauline also admitted that she would get distressed when I was outside the house, and she had forgotten how the TV Remote worked, as I usually did all the channel changes when we were together in the room.
Although Pauline had not driven a car for several years we were told to give up her Driving Licence, and get a Lasting Power of Attorney document signed as soon as we could.
